Master Makeover

“A baby changes everything.” Isn’t that the truth! My last blog post was in 2020 with a sleeping infant in my arms. Let’s just say that third little babes arrived like a Texas tornado and life hasn’t exactly slowed down — yet. The blog certainly has been quiet but that hasn’t stopped the magic from happening behind the scenes.

I giggle when people say, “I love your style”. Honestly, designing for myself is a nightmare because I truly love ALL design styles. It was a refreshing change of pace when this sweet couple approached me for their bathroom renovation goals that married to her classic style and his appreciation for a modern flair.

The original bathroom had SEVEN doors in a 250 square foot space. Seven. Space planning was the key to success to really give this space the right energy, flow, and organization. I couldn’t wait for demo day!

I developed two design concepts for this renovation that allowed for natural movement and maximum function as a master suite. Due to plumbing restraints, we opted for design concept A. Let’s give a moment of gratitude for this sweet family that endured this renovation during a pandemic. We experienced a plethora of delays and hiccups but seriously, I have the best clients! They were incredibly kind, and patient and I am especially grateful.

Oh, la la! I love before + afters. Hedlof Construction did a remarkable job of executing the design plan. It felt marvelous to open this space up and give this couple a master closet of their dreams. We chose to go with a wood grain laminate for the custom closet finish from AUM Wood Products. I honestly adore the texture it offered to the cabinetry. Wood grain laminate is most often considered for commercial applications but here is a great tip; it is a less expensive investment, a quicker production time, and you have a wider selection of finish styles. Triple win!

Between the rich walnut flooring, the subtle accents of brushed gold, and the elegant style, it is impossible to choose a favorite design feature for this renovation. How about that stunning wallpaper? Hands down this was my favorite application of wallpaper in 2021. Candice Olson’s decadence wallpaper line in the oh-so-fitting “paradise”, was the perfect complement to finish this classic renovation.

A few of my favorite things;

  1. Oystershell 864 - Benjamin Moore Color rescue! Oystershell is one of my tried + true favorite subtle blue wall paints. It is perfect for a soothing bathroom or master bedroom but ‘don’t judge a book by its’ cover’. It never looks anything like the sample swatch, but I promise you will love it!

  2. Davenport Pull - Top Knobs I’ve been eying up these beautiful pulls for some time from Top Knobs and this was the perfect application. See them in the closet suite in honey bronze and paired nicely with a crystal knob in the master bathroom.

  3. Harley Lux - Porcelain Tile by Syverson Til & Stone This shower tile is crazy beautiful! Our photos don’t quite do it justice but you must trust. It’s a 12x24 shiny white tile with a textured finish that creates interest and reflection. Stunner! Not to mention this company is the bomb dot com. Syverson Tile is out of Sioux Falls, SD so rarely there are delays or backorders. I love their products!
