Design Trends [2021]

“There are two types of tired: one that requires rest, and the other that requires peace.” - Unknown

2021 was a year of rest for me both physically and socially. My marketing business of thirteen years came to an unexpected end with the rise of the pandemic. This unforeseen change of course rattled my charted plans and I needed rest to recoup. My hiatus from social platforms was blissful but didn’t keep me from designing beautiful spaces. With that said, 2022 is now on the rap up but I want to take a quick moment to put my favorite projects of 2021 in the light.

 Wallpaper

I don’t imagine the wallpaper trend will leave us anytime soon, at least I hope not. I love accenting a space with the depth and character that wallpaper can offer. From big bold florals, to subtle geometric shapes, wallpaper can pack a punch and one that fits any design style.

Hidden Refrigerators

What is that old saying . . . Can’t live with them, can’t live without them? This holds true for refrigerators. Refrigerators are really unsightly mammoths, but these clunky beasts are an essential need in life. I adore the challenge of trying to hide the refrigerator. Panel front refrigerators blend nicely into cabinetry while refrigerator drawers are great for maximizing space. Tip: If you have the flexibility in your floor plan, tuck your full size refrigerator into your pantry and opt for refrigerator drawers in your working triangle. This gives you loads of countertop space while keeping the energy of the kitchen airy and open.

Hexagon Tile

Versatile, and fundamentally stylish, they serve as great options across a myriad of rooms. I had fun playing with hexagon tiles as you can see below but they come in so many different colors and materials it’s hard to choose a favorite. Herringbone was a favorite for 2020 with Hex in 2021! Any guess which geometric shape takes the cake in 2022?

OOOk that’s that. Oof, it feels good to free some of these projects from the dust on my hard drive. It’s fun to reflect back on the past two years and feel humbly grateful that I have the coolest clients that are willing to roll with the punches and embrace some of these design trends. With that said, y’all have to check out my next blog, The Ground Up. Dream clients, dream team, dream project!

Love & Light.
