Shades of Blue

When you love and live lakeside in Minnesota you naturally are drawn to the hue of blue. The Johnson family was easy to work with on these renovation projects at their lake home as they had a strong vision for what they wanted and were willing to push the boundaries in design. The lower-level living room was lacking organization and function for their sweet family of five. I approached this space with a timeless yet classic fireplace design including built-in surrounds to provide the family the comfort and practicality they were seeking. By mixing wood grain elements with paint grade and stone, I was able to create a tremendous amount of depth on one wall feature creating the focal point of the entire space. Adding a special nod to nautical with charming navy light fixtures, leather cabinet pulls and a custom rug from Floor to Ceiling, this cozy lakeside room can now be enjoyed comfortably during all of our changing seasons.

For the love of tile! We had a lot of fun pushing the envelope with these incredible tile features in the bathroom stages of the renovation. The children’s bathroom was finished with timeless white oak cabinets from AUM Wood Products while accented with charming cabinet pulls from Anthropologie. I absolutely love to source Anthro for a pop of character whenever possible. Port Rush by Cambria from Floor to Ceiling is showing off for the countertop quartz and is one of my favorites as it has a subtle navy hue with silver glitz to its movement. I made sure to overstate the backsplash here just to give it a little more punch. Boldly adding the finishing touches are the paint grade shiplap accent walls featured in Sherwin Williams, Anchors Aweigh.

Bathrooms are so hard to shoot (because they are small) but here you can see the closer details of the gorgeous Rowan cabinet pulls from Anthropologie

The guest bathroom needs no introduction as it proudly takes the center stage on this blog reveal. Featuring yet another brilliant shade of blue is Sherwin Williams, Dark Night on the custom vanity with the stunning Palmas Forest Tile by Clay Imports behind it as the gorgeous feature wall. Back lit LED frameless mirrors add the sparkle while Lucille Fluted Cabinet Pulls complete the finishing touch. The Provenza flooring was a continuation of the flooring featured throughout and really allowed for a natural transition into the bath from the additional living spaces on the lower-level.

While this renovation is new to you but was completed last year, it truly goes to show how timeless and classic the many shades of blue can be, especially living lakeside. The nautical notes that blend perfectly with the water’s edge give these spaces the charm and character to be admired for decades to come. Special love to this family and this team of pros for navigating a renovation project that managed to find it’s turn of surprises with each corner.

Happy Reveal!
